Lost skier walks off slopes

A 69-year-old skier was found Monday a little more than three hours after he was reported missing from the Nevada side of Heavenly Ski Resort.

Sam Silverberg, of Laguna Hills, Calif., was reported overdue at 7:10 p.m. to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department. He was found by ski patrol around 11:45 p.m. on the east side of the mountain toward Carson Valley. Ski patrollers located the man by following his tracks. Silverberg was near Dagget Cree,k just south of Kingsbury Grade.

Deputy Gregory Hubbard said Silverberg was in good shape and walked out to the highway under his own power, accompanied by ski patrol, in about two hours. He refused any medical attention and was taken back to his hotel room at the Lakeside Inn and Casino.
