LTUSD Board meeting preview

On Tuesday, the Lake Tahoe Unified School District Board will hear an update on the 2009-10 budget.
California State passed its budget in July, and district officials are still deciphering what the cuts mean for the district. Chief Financial Officer Debra Yates will present the latest news to the board at its meeting this week.
LTUSD Facilities Director Steve Morales will also update the board on the construction progress at the high school. Currently a new Career Technical Education facility and a portable replacement building are being built, and should in operation for the 2010-11 school year.

Two LTUSD students, Dana Tumbaga and Eric Harrod, were selected to visit Korea. There trip is an all expense-paid scholarship to spend two weeks in Korea beginning Aug. 8. Harrod a South Tahoe High School graduate and Tumbaga will be a junior at STHS.

The district’s test scores are in, but can’t be released until Aug. 18, so stay tuned for an update in the coming weeks.
Last year five out of six of the district’s schools met their targets for improvement in California’s Academic Performance Index. The exception last year was the middle school, where the overall API score declined.
