LTVA hosts tourism forum

Since tourism is the region’s mantra, the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority is throwing its annual forum today on the subject.

The workshop held in Meyers doesn’t cost anything but bright ideas.

The LTVA invites input from varying business and civic groups and individuals.

“It’s time to give the LTVA input,” Executive Director Terry LeBan said Wednesday, characterizing the forum as a “comfortable way to raise issues.”

The meeting starts at 10 a.m. It’s quickly followed by a morning workshop about the history of the LTVA. There’s also a brief review of its strategic and marketing plans.

At lunch, the LTVA celebrates its 15th anniversary.

The afternoon workshop session promises to be a meat-and-potatoes strategy and planning venue.

Issues challenging South Shore tourism top the list of topics. These issues are familiar ones – the California economy in light of an energy crisis and the threat of Indian gaming on Lake Tahoe gaming properties.

Other topics include LTVA’s regional strategic direction and ways to increase the effectiveness of projects, programs and marketing plans.

“I expect people to roll up their sleeves and ask what they’re going to do (to address these issues),” LeBan said.

The free workshop is held at the Echo Creek Ranch, less than a mile from Upper Truckee Road on Old Meyers Grade Road on the right.
