Jim Grant / Tahoe Daily Tribune / Wanted by the FBI, Jesse Lee James is taken into custody under gunpoint by South Lake Tahoe Police officer Rhett Gann on Saturday.

A South Lake Tahoe man believed to be in possession of explosives and wanted by the California Department of Corrections remained in custody Sunday at the El Dorado County Jail with no bail.

Jesse Lee James, 49, was arrested at gunpoint Saturday after being cornered by six South Lake Tahoe police and El Dorado County Sheriff’s units at 4:10 p.m. off Highway 50 between Longs Drug Store and Heidi’s Pancake House after the FBI issued an officer safety alert.

The authorities had been searching for James on a parole violation last week, police Sgt. Brian Williams reported. No explosive devices were found in the recreational vehicle James was riding in, but a cologne bottle in the shape of a hand grenade was discovered.

“When Jesse James is not in jail, it’s not long before he’s on his way back,” Williams said.
