Man arrested, bomb squad summoned

A California man who allegedly told Harveys Lake Tahoe security his backpack would self-destruct later said he was just joking.

Roseville, Calif., resident Robert Buchanan Burzinski, 22, was taken into custody on Monday night after security reported a bomb threat.

Deputies and members of the Tahoe Douglas Bomb Squad responded to the casino. Once there, deputies were told that Burzinski was told four times he was trespassing and had to leave the casino. When security detained him, he allegedly told them that his backpack would self-destruct. He was taken to a hotel-casino detention room and then was arrested and taken to the Douglas County Jail.

According to the sheriff’s report, security video shows Burzinski telling officers that his backpack would self-destruct if security opened it, and saying “yes” when she asked him if it was a bomb.
