El Dorado County Sheriff’s Deputy arrested a 49-year-old man on suspicion of failing to register as a sex offender early Wednesday morning after he was reportedly banging on a door at Camp Richardson.

Deputies arrested Robert David Earll about 4 a.m. after arriving at the resort and discovering he was a registered sex offender out of Washington, said Lt. Pete Van Arnum.

Earll, a transient, told deputies he has been living at the South Shore for about a year, but said he did not register as a sex offender here because he did not want authorities to know his whereabouts, Van Arnum said.

Earll also told deputies he was hoping to use the restroom at the resort, Van Arnum added.

Earll was booked into El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe. He remained in custody Thursday afternoon, according to county booking information.

It is unknown whether he has an attorney.
