Man arrested in fire

Greyson Howard

TRUCKEE – A suspicious fire Sunday near Glenshire Drive resulted in the arrest of a 22-year-old San Francisco area man.

Shunji Murakami, 22, was arrested on suspicion of unlawfully causing a fire burning forest land, a felony, and booked in the Nevada County jail.

In addition, Kota Yoshida, 23, and Yuhei Yoshida, 23, were cited and released on suspicion of causing a fire, a misdemeanor, according to police reports.

All suspects are from the San Francisco area and were on a fishing trip when the incident occurred, according to police.

Fire agencies responded to a report of a fire between Glenshire Drive and the railroad tracks Sunday afternoon.

The blaze was contained to less than one acre, but burned within 50 yards of homes in the Olympic Heights subdivision, according to police reports.

Officers found a vehicle matching the description of one seen leaving the area after smoke was first observed.

Three suspects were contacted and eventually admitted their involvement, said Truckee Police Cpl. Roy Richner in a news release.
