Police arrested a South Lake Tahoe man on suspicion of numerous crimes, including kidnapping, after he allegedly prevented his roommate and kept him from leaving a residence on Clement Street Friday morning.

Joseph Daniel Fritz, 29, was arrested after allegedly pulling a knife on his 26-year-old roommate and preventing the man from leaving a bedroom following a fight.

Police responded to the residence on the 800 block of Clement Street after the roommate was able to dial 911 from the bedroom, said Lt. David Stevenson. When police arrived, Fritz surrendered without incident, Stevenson said.

Fritz was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon, making terrorist threats and exhibiting a deadly weapon, according to arrest records.

He remained in custody in El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe Tuesday afternoon. It is unknown if he has an attorney.

It’s unclear what started the fight, Stevenson said.
