Man back in jail for sex charges
A 47-year-old Stateline man was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of trying to rape one woman and solicit prostitution from another.
Michael Earl Henderson, who is already facing felony charges in Douglas County, was a free man for 13 days before being picked up by South Lake Tahoe police. Henderson was arrested Dec. 22 in Nevada for allegedly eluding a peace officer, battery, driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license. He bailed out Dec. 30.
Police stopped Henderson at the 1100 block of Ski Run Boulevard around midnight Tuesday for driving under the influence. Police came after receiving a report that a driver was harassing a woman pedestrian near Nephele’s Restaurant.
The 18-year-old woman told police that she was walking home on Ski Run from a party when a car passed her and then made a U-turn and came up behind her. The man in the car asked her for directions. The woman said she could smell alcohol coming from the driver. She told the man to leave her alone, but he continued to follow her in the car. The man offered her $400 to come home with him, police said.
The woman again refused and the car drove off, only to immediately come back again from another direction. She then ran to Nephele’s and asked the bartender for help.
Police said the woman identified Henderson as the man who followed her. While the police were taking Henderson into custody, a 19-year-old woman came from a nearby motel to tell police that Henderson had, just minutes before, attacked her in her room.
The 19-year-old said that when she returned to her room from visiting a friend, she left the door unlocked. The woman went into the bathroom and when she returned a man was standing in the living room looking at some pictures on her dresser. The man immediately came and wrapped his arms around her, pushing her arms to her sides. The man then switched off the lights. The woman told police that she punched the man in the stomach and started screaming. The man fled.
Police said the 19-year-old identified Henderson as the man in her room.
Henderson was booked into the El Dorado County Jail on suspicion of burglary, attempted rape, driving under the influence and on a suspended license, and soliciting prostitution.
