Man dies after he collides with tree

A 20-year-old San Jose man died on Tuesday at Northstar-at-Tahoe after apparently striking a tree.

The man, who’s name and cause of death have not been released, was skiing with friends on Martis Run at about 2 p.m. when the accident occurred. He was not wearing a helmet, according to Northstar spokeswoman Nicole Belt.

Responding ski patrollers began resuscitation efforts immediately and transported the man off the mountain. He was later announced dead by the Placer County Coroner.

“Northstar-at-Tahoe would like to extend their deepest condolences to the family and friends of the individual,” said Belt.

This death marks the sixth of the season at North Lake Tahoe ski resorts, including three at Northstar-at-Tahoe, one of which was a heart attack.
