Man faces serious charges

William Ferchland, Tahoe Daily Tribune

Rudolph Christopher Steele faces a maximum of 25 years and two months in state prison for allegedly sodomizing a 4-year-old boy over an eight month period of time.

Steele, 40, appeared before Judge Jerald Lasarow at El Dorado County Superior Court for a preliminary hearing that was pushed back to Aug. 29. He entered a not guilty plea to counts of continious sexual abuse of a child, willful harm or injury to a child, mayhem and a misdemeanor charge of exposing himself with an infectious disease.

According to California law, more than three acts of abuse spanning more than three months against a child under 14 years old constitutes continuous sexual abuse.

Steele remains in El Dorado County Jail on $200,000 bail.

Authorities received notice from the victim’s mother about the abuse and arrested Steele on Aug. 9. El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department suspect Steele may have abused other small children around his residence on the 1500 block of Player Lane.

Those with information regarding Steele are asked to call Deputy District Attorney Peter O’Hara at (530) 573-3100.
