Man killed crossing street

Tribune

A 53-year-old South Lake Tahoe man running across Emerald Bay Road was struck by a car and died from head injuries, police reported.

The 17-year-old driver of the 1995 Toyota Tacoma pickup was traveling southbound on the road Saturday night. The car passed the intersection of Roger Avenue and 5th Street when she noticed the Lawrence Gordon Cowley directly in front of her car. She attempted to swerve but couldn’t avoid him, police said.

Cowley was transported to Barton Memorial Hospital where resuscitation attempts were made.

The matter is still under investigation.

“As of this time there is no evidence of criminal behavior,” South Lake Tahoe Police Sgt. Terry Daniels said. “It appears he was crossing outside a crosswalk and darted in front of her vehicle.”
