Man who yelled ‘fire’ identified

The man who ran out of a second floor duplex on Anita Drive carrying mountain bikes and yelling “fire,” has been identified as 28-year-old Jason Linsky.

Fire investigators said the Oct. 8 blaze that started as a cooking fire on the kitchen’s stove caused $130,000 of damage to the building.

At the time of the fire, Linsky was a temporary roommate of two 21-year-old tenants. Linsky reportedly told police he was asleep in the apartment when the fire started, and that he may have left the stove on or a wall heater might have ignited some glue he had been using to repair floor tiles his dog tore up.

Police contacted Linsky the night of the fire and arrested him on an unrelated warrant that had been issued because of failure to make a parole appearance. Linsky lists his residence as Bakersfield, Calif.
