A good, old-fashioned boogie down in the swamp will take place in Crystal Bay Casino’s Crown Room this week.
Marcia Ball returns to the casino Friday, bringing her blues-meets-swamp-rock tunes with her.
“The Texas-born, Louisiana-raised musical storyteller has earned worldwide fame for her ability to ignite a full-scale roadhouse rhythm and blues party every time she strolls onto the stage,” according to her online biography. “Her groove-laden New Orleans boogie, deeply soulful ballads and rollicking Gulf Coast blues have made her a one-of-a-kind favorite with music fans all over the world.”
Ball’s most recent album, 2014’s “The Tattooed Lady and the Alligator Man,” tells the story of true love at a traveling carnival and contains the unique storytelling that has earned Ball induction into the Gulf Coast Music Hall of Fame, the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame, six Living Blues Awards, nine Blues Music Awards and five Grammy Award nominations.
“The release mixes Ball’s Gulf Coast blues, New Orleans R&B, swampy Louisiana ballads, and jumping, Tex-Mex flavored zydeco into a one-of-a-kind musical gumbo, a sound she has been perfecting over the course of her legendary career,” according to the biography.
