A Mass will be celebrated today for Mary Smith, who died of a heart attack Dec. 26, 2004, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Reno with most of her children at her side. She was 86.
Mary was born May 16, 1918, at Ogden, Utah, and had lived at Lake Tahoe for the past seven years. For the 27 years prior to living at Tahoe, Mary and her husband, Bernard, lived in Sonora, Calif. Mary always had a kind word and radiant smile for all she met and was a shining beacon of love and caring to those who knew her. She was greatly loved and touched the hearts of many. Mary will be greatly missed. Although her passing was untimely, she was able to joyfully celebrate Christmas at a party attended by 39 family members, many of whom live at South Lake Tahoe.
She is survived by her children, Patty Tarullo, Phyllis DeCrescenzo, Sheila Griffin, Mickey Simon, Cheryo Oransky, Daniel Smith, Cecilia Guarino, May Kutch, June Denney and Vincent Smith; 33 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband and soul mate of 57 years, Bernard Smith.
A tribute to the beauty of life will be celebrated today at a 2 p.m. Mass at St. Theresa Catholic Church in South Lake Tahoe. Mary will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in the Riverside National Cemetery.
