Maxine Eileen Atherton

Maxine Eileen Atherton started her journey of life on Oct. 18, 1940, and departed it on Feb. 22, 2008.

Maxine was a dedicated and inspiring educator for over 40 years. She started her teaching career at Turlock High School prior to moving to Zephyr Cove, Nev.

Maxine retired last year from George Whittell High School after 29 years of opening students hearts and minds. Her passion for learning empowered her students to realize the wonderful possibilities life had to offer.

Maxine leaves behind her husband of 38 years, Patrick; sons, Robert and David; daughter-in-law, Jenn; grandsons, Logan and Zachary; and sister, Nadine Thompson.

Memorial services are scheduled for this Thursday at Whittell High School at 4 p.m. Inurnment will take place at Turlock Memorial Park, Calif.
