McCauley’s low round helps Vikes finish third

Morgan McCauley shot a personal-best round to help the South Tahoe Vikings finish third in a 3A golf tournament Friday in Winnemucca.

McCauley, a senior, fired a round of 106 as the Vikings compiled a four-player team score of 434 to finish behind only Elko (374) and Lowry (383). Truckee was fourth at 443.

Junior Morgan Murphy led the Vikings with a score of 88 to finish in a four-way tie for third, one shot behind winner Maria Inchausti of Dayton. Inchausti has shot 87 in all four of her tournament appearances. Also contributing to STHS’s season-best third-place team result were Ayden Williamson, 117; and Jessica Robberson, 123.

Yerington beats Warriors

Whittell lost to Yerington 37-6 in a Northern 2A football game on Friday night in Yerington.

Whittell (0-4) is scheduled to play at Battle Mountain on Oct. 1.
