Meeting planners conference attracts industry leaders
The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority is hosting 25 group and wholesaler planners to South Shore for the 2010 Taste of Tahoe Planners Symposium – a first-person familiarization tour to showcase the destination as a premier meeting and group location.
Instead of attending a trade show and chasing down prospective business, the LTVA and 17 area partners are bringing the decision-makers to South Shore for three days of activities, dining and lodging, and the beauty of Lake Tahoe from Thursday to Saturday.
The attending planners and wholesalers represent a group that can generate a great deal of business to the destination throughout the western states in drive and air markets.
Guest include representatives from AA Worldwide Travel, Allstate insurance, Business Technology Association, California Tour Consultants, CardianBCT, Chevron, ConferenceDirect, DRS Consulting, Hewlett Packard, Honeywell ACS, Palantir Technologies, Travelocity, Vacation Roost, and many others.
“The goal of the symposium is to familiarize group travel planners with the hotels, restaurants and year round recreation and activities that make Lake Tahoe South Shore the perfect destination for groups seeking outstanding facilities and activities for their next meeting or incentive,” said Carol Chaplin, executive director of the LTVA.
South Shore will be putting its best foot forward by combining large properties and small, restaurants and lake activities throughout the area to tout the passions that attract visitors and residents. Culinary partners include Riva Grill, Stateline Brewery, Edgewood Tahoe, The Cork ‘n More, Blue Angle Cafe, Tahoe Ridge Winery, Alpen Sierra Coffee. Lodging properties include Lakeland Village, Forest Suites, Inn by the Lake, Embassy Suites, Harrah’s/Harveys, MontBleu, Horizon. Activities partners feature Lake Tahoe Cruises, Valhalla, Premier Events and Design, Tahoe Adventure Company, Tahoe/Reno Experience, Discover Lake Tahoe, Lake Tahoe Adventures. The three area ski resorts: Heavenly, Kirkwood and Sierra-at-Tahoe are on board, as well as Dynamic Duo, PSAV, Elegant Affaire, Amador Stage Lines, Ryan’s Express and Creative Coverings.
Events include a Taste of Tahoe hosted at Edgewood, cabaret show at Horizon, focus sessions on selling year round attractions in South Lake Tahoe, a visit to Valhalla and a lake cruise.
“Lake Tahoe is the only place with this combination of outdoor recreation, spectacular nature beauty and desirable amenities and services,” said Chaplin. “A personal tour is more memorable and effective than brochures and presentations.”
