Meetings on possible post office closures next month

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The U.S. Postal Service will hold public meetings in June to discuss the possible closures of the Glenbrook and Homewood post office locations.

The meeting on the Glenbrook location will start at 6 p.m. June 8 at the Glenbrook Golf Course. The Homewood meeting will start at 6 p.m. June 14 at the Rideout Community Center in Tahoe City.

The locations are being studied for closure because of economic concerns at the mail delivery service, which is facing a possible loss of $8 billion this year.

“We are looking at offices like these, that can be served by neighboring offices and routes, to consolidate,” said U.S. Postal Service spokesman David Rupert in an email. “This will save on salaries, transportation, heat and other building costs.”

“It’s important to note that each of these is only a study at this time. The meetings are part of our disclosure and public information requirement.”
