SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – South Lake Tahoe resident Patty Smith lost her son Timothy Smith in Iraq April 7, 2008. Monday, she reminded those in attendance of Memorial Day services at Happy Homestead Cemetery that freedom isn’t free.

“For us, every day is Memorial Day,” she said.

The services were a somber honor to those who have served in the United States military and those that have lost their lives.

South Tahoe High School’s Navy ROTC presented the colors. It was their last ceremony before the program is closed by the Navy due to low enrollment.
