A celebration of life service for Sgt. Timothy “Timmy” Smith, who died on April 7, 2008 in Iraq, will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at Sierra-at-Tahoe ski resort.

The 2001 graduate of South Tahoe High School was killed in Iraq by a roadside bomb. He was the first South Lake Tahoe native to become a casualty of the war.

The Smith family will hold a public ceremony at the Sierra beginning at 2 p.m. where a plaque in memory of Smith will be unveiled. The family asks that attendees arrive at the resort at 1:30 p.m. Sierra will transport, via the Grandview chair lift, all attendees to the ceremony. Attendees should wear warm clothing, boots, jackets and gloves.

Following the ceremony there will be a potluck at 848 Placer Ave., South Lake Tahoe, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
