A gas station was robbed by two males who were later caught by police when they attempted a getaway inside a taxi, police reported.

Moises Navarro, 21, and a 17-year-old, both from South Lake Tahoe, were arrested for suspicion of robbery Monday morning after South Lake Tahoe police units combed the area and found the two inside a taxi at Park and Pine avenues.

The two entered a Union 76 gas station, located at 4115 Lake Tahoe Blvd., at 4:43 a.m. Monday. Navarro smashed a liquor bottle on the counter and pointed the broken neck shards toward the clerk, Sgt. Alex Schumacher said. The juvenile simulated possession of a weapon, the police report stated.

“Open the register, open the register,” Navarro told the clerk, according to the police report.

The clerk followed his demands and the pair fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

They were later caught, identified by the clerk and placed into custody. The juvenile was sent to El Dorado County Juvenile Hall in Placerville. Navarro remains in El Dorado County Jail on $40,000 bail.
