Mental health first aid course offered

The El Dorado County Mental Health Division will host a free Mental Health First Aid course on March 28 and 29.

The free course is an interactive program designed to help the public identify, understand and response to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. Participants will be taught skills to help connect those in crisis with professional, peer and self-help care, as well as how to help in a mental health emergency situation.

Anyone with an interest in mental health issues, frequent contact with the public or in a position to help those in distress due to stress, trauma or crisis is welcome to attend.

The class will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a mid-day lunch break, at the South Lake Tahoe branch of the El Dorado County Library, 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd. To register, email janet.stevens@edcgov.us or call 530-573-7963.
