Meyers forest cleanup slated

The Forest Service’s work center in Meyers will be the focus of a cleanup effort Wednesday afternoon.

Work crews from the Nevada Division of Forestry, South Tahoe Refuse Company and South Tahoe High School will join Forest Service employees to clean and prepare the site for landscaping in the fall.

“We’ll be throwing some trash away and working on making the site look better,” said Mark Johnson, fire management officer.

The work center is located east of the Agriculture check station on U.S. Highway 50.

Crews will also be cleaning up debris from a small wild land fire in the forest behind the Crescent V shopping center. Crews will be working in an area known as Camp Chonokis. The site was a Girl Scout camp from 1924 to the mid 1960s.
