U.S. Forest Service officials of the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit have agreed to a request to extend the comment period for the proposed Meyers Landfill cleanup plan to a 60-day comment period, ending July 20.

Legally, the Forest Service was required to provide a 30-day comment period, but extended that to a 45-day period. Due to the technical complexity of the cleanup proposal and preferred alternative, a request was submitted to extend the comment period further in order to address specific questions related to the plan.

The proposed plan alternatives, basic public information, contact information and site history are on the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit Web site: A link to the Meyers Landfill page is in the main menu.

As news, information, documents and additional meetings become available, they are being posted.

Instructions for providing written comment via e-mail can be found on the Web site.

The standard mail address is: Cynthia McCormack, USDA Forest Service, 35 College Drive, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150.
