Meyers roof construction starts next month

Andy Bourelle

Construction on Meyers Elementary School’s leaky roof will probably begin sometime in August.

The South Tahoe Unified School District hopes to have the project out to bid by July 27, according to Facilities Director Steve Morales. The bids must be returned by Aug. 6, and the district plans to award a contract shortly after that.

Students return to Meyers Elementary Sept. 8, and Morales said the work will not be completed before then. However, the district is planning to have the project completed in strategic phases, minimizing the impact to students.

After construction on the 30,000-square-foot roof is completed, some interior repairs will be started, including cleaning carpets and repainting and replacing damaged ceilings.

The project is estimated to cost nearly $600,000. Morales said the school’s roof is a need that must be addressed.
