Military officers installed for 2005

The Lake Tahoe chapter of the Military Officers of America (formerly the Retired Officers Association) installed officers for 2005 during the organization’s Dec. 2 Christmas party at the Edgewood Tahoe Restaurant.

Retired U.S. Marine Corps Col. Roger W. Peard, retiring president, received a certificate signed by many of the past presidents of the organization and a mock citation from the commandant of the Marine Corps for upholding the tradition of the corps – Semper Fidelis.

Incoming officers are Rear Adm. Ben J. Lehman of Stateline, president; Lt. Col. Guy Fortier USAF Ret., of Incline Village, vice president; and Mrs. Dee Peard of South Lake Tahoe, secretary/treasurer.

The highlight of the meeting was reading of a letter by Lt. Col. Fortier from a Marine in Iraq to his father about the recently concluded operation to regain control of Fallujah. The heroism displayed by our troops in the incidents described was truly extraordinary.

The objectives for the coming year are: active help to DoD’s Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve programs; visits and other efforts to comfort wounded veterans returning from Iraq; and increasing the membership of former officers who have not retired.

Lehman invites any person, male or female, who ever held a commission in one of our country’s uniformed services to telephone him at (775) 588-7765 for more information.
