Minister’s Forum: Inconceivably valuable gifts from God

Alan Morse

There are three things the world would give anything to have. Money can’t buy them, and very few people ever have had them. They are nonstop, uninterrupted joy; absolute peace of mind; and authentic love – the ultimate fulfillment and contentment. These qualities in our life are our stabilizers.

The answer to a healthy and wholesome mind is a gift from God. It is strong and stable like an anchor in our lives. People don’t just decide one day, “Oh, I think I’ll just grab me some joy, peace of mind, lots of love for all mankind and contentment.” These gifts are from God to those who love and delight in him, people who have let him change their thoughts, their ambitions and their perspective on life.

Everybody must make it a priority to get along with one another and to work at bringing joy, happiness and understanding to the lives of others. Our attitudes and emotions can be felt and transferred to others, so let’s work to get people to make things as wholesome and happy as we can. We are not always going to be in agreement about everything, but there’s no need to be contentious. Be encouraging to people, and be thoughtful of the work done by others.

Before we act or speak, we should take into consideration the people around us, and how it is going to affect them. We all need to work at what we say, how we say it and watch what comes out of our mouths. Being rude and failing to be polite is offensive. It drives people away. Life is a team effort, and the world that has gone before us has passed down the knowledge and skills we need to do our work, prosper and coexist. Think back to the people who meant a lot to you, and “pay it forward” to the next generation.

The first thing we need to do when we are scared or threatened is to pray to God in faith, and trust that he will come through for us. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all that he has done for you. If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live for Christ.

God is calling us to “outrageous faith,” a sane mind and a crazy kind of courage, as well as confidence in God that says it’s time to get on with living. A lack of joy, a negative attitude, a twisted mind and too much caution makes us think somehow God will fail us if we went all-out for him.

We need to get our minds on straight, have an excellent wholesome life and prosper from the gifts that God wants to give us. We need to stay true to the Lord in simple faith and obedience to his word.

Trust in God that he knows what’s best for our lives, and that in his faithfulness and loving kindness, he will see to it that good comes our way. God’s gifts of peace will be there for you, with a calm assurance that God is going to answer prayer and work everything out in his way and his time.

We are to take control of our thoughts and minds, and fill them with the right things. We are to reject evil thoughts and fill our minds with scripture, if we are to experience the gifts of God’s love, joy, peace and contentment with fulfillment. We are to learn contentment in our wants, wishes and needs, knowing that the Lord will take care of us.
