Missing Alzheimer’s patient found at Cameron Park

Michael Schneider

An Alzheimer’ disease sufferer missing since Tuesday was found in Cameron Park Saturday.

John Polackowyj, 69, was located by an El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office foot search team about a mile-and-a-half from where his car was found. He was discovered at 4:30 Saturday afternoon.

Polackowyj was taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center via helicopter due to dehydration.

He was listed in stable condition Sunday at the medical center.

The search effort included searchers on foot, mounted and in various off-road vehicles.

Polackowyj was found asleep in some brush about 30 feet from a dirt road.

The sheriff’s office wished to thank neighboring search and rescue teams from Placer County, Amador County, Marin County, the CYA Mountain Rescue Team and the U.S. Forest Service.
