Missing girls found, arrested

On Friday afternoon Douglas County Sheriff’s Department located and arrested two South Lake Tahoe girls who had been reported missing by a parent Wednesday night.

Investigators found the girls, Amy Klaes, 17, and Jackie Rivas,14, inside a branch of Bank of America on Kingsbury Grade at 1 p.m. They were in the bank to withdraw money from Rivas’ savings account. Bank employees notified the sheriff’s department about the girls’ whereabouts.

They were arrested and booked by deputies for being runaway juveniles, investigators said.

Klaes and Rivas had been reported missing by Amy’s mother after they failed to meet her at 9:30 p.m. inside an arcade at Harveys Resort Casino.

Before their disappearance, the girls were reportedly seen at Harveys and the Horizon Casino Resort Wednesday night with two men in their 20s. Investigators said those men turned out to be teen-age boys.

Deputies have arrested one of the boys on a probation violation. They released the other teen-ager to the custody of his parents. Douglas County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the incident but have not yet determined if the boys will be charged with a crime.

Thursday night, investigators received reports that indicated they stayed with the boys willingly. When the girls were found Friday, investigators said it appeared they were in the company of the boys.
