The mother of a Gardnerville teen who ran away from home last month believes her daughter may be in the South Lake Tahoe area.

“She’s been seen in Tahoe,” said Kathee Donaire, the mother of 15-year-old Ashlee Karow, who disappeared from Donaire’s Gardnerville home the evening of Aug. 24.

Karow, who ran away once before in November 2007, left a note saying she wanted to “disappear for a while,” Donaire said.

The family moved to Gardnerville six years ago from the South Shore, and Donaire suspects Karow may be staying with friends here.

The girl is listed as a juvenile runaway, said Douglas County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jim Halsey.

Karow is 5 feet 4 inches tall and about 120 pounds with black hair and blue eyes. The teen has braces with green bands and last was seen wearing a pink top and blue jeans, Halsey said.
