Missoula Children’s Theater to hold youth auditions for Jack and the Beanstalk

Staff Reports

Tahoe Arts Project will hold auditions for the Missoula Children’s Theatre production of Jack and the Beanstalk from 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 16 at the South Tahoe Middle School multipurpose room.

Those auditioning should arrive at 4 p.m. and plan to stay for the full two hours. Some of the cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the auditions. There is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast in the play. Parents should discuss this with their children.

Roles to be cast include Jack, Mother, Milky White, the Magic Harp, farmers, merchants, the Giant, Jill, circus performers and magic beans. Students in kindergarten through 12th grade are encouraged to audition. No advance preparation is necessary.

Auditions are free and if cast there will be $35 charge per child to participate in the week-long theater experience. A limited number of scholarships are available.

Missoula Children’s Theatre touring productions are complete with costumes, scenery, props and makeup. The fee includes a showing of the documentary “Little Red Truck.”

Assistant directors will also be cast to assist with the technical aspects of the production.

It is very important children be available for all rehearsals and performances if selected.

“At past auditions, children have been selected and then come to us and say that they are not able to participate,” said Peggy Thompson, executive director of Tahoe Arts Project.

“This is very frustrating because it is too late to select someone else for the part and I don’t want to see anyone miss out,” Thompson said.

Rehearsals will take place throughout the week from 4 to 8:30 p.m., depending on the role, at the South Tahoe Middle School multipurpose room. The cast will be called for dress rehearsal Saturday morning. Performances will be at 3 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21 at the middle school.

Admission for the performances is $10 for adults and $5 for children and seniors.

The Missoula Children’s Theater residency is sponsored by the Tahoe Arts Project, a nonprofit organization. For information, call (530) 542-3632.
