Monday’s weather report: Nice week ahead with a change by weekend

High pressure at the surface and aloft over the Great Basin will keep a dry and stable air mass in place across the Sierra for the next several days.

Expect sunny, warm days and clear, cold nights with light winds today and Tuesday.

High temperatures are forecast to climb in the the lower to mid-60s around the Basin, which is about 10 to 15 degrees above the seasonal normal.

Low humidity and longer nights will allow minimum temperatures to drop into the teens to lower 20s, or around 5 to 10 degrees below the seasonal average for this date.

If you happen to live above the valley inversions, or 6,500 feet, low temperatures in the mid-30s to lower 40s are expected, with afternoon highs in the mid-50s to lower 60s.

Longer-range forecast models are showing a change in the weather pattern by the end of the week, with increasing clouds and wind Friday and a chance of rain or snow by Friday night into Saturday.

Stay tuned if you have travel plans this coming weekend.
