Motorcycle wreck on curve hurts one

A 47-year-old man on a motorcycle was injured when he crashed in the dirt going east on U.S. Highway 50 just past Horsetail Falls.

Craig Banko, of Carson City, was heading home from Sacramento when he lost control of his bike in an uphill curve at 3:35 p.m.

“We lose a lot of vehicles at that curve,” said California Highway Patrol Officer Bob Bunne. “We estimated that he was going 40 to 45 mph on a curve marked for 30. He missed the guard rail and basically fell over in the dirt.”

Bunne said Banko had pain in his back, left arm and neck. Lake Valley Fire Battalion Chief Brian Eakin said Banko also suffered some memory loss.

A spokeswoman at Barton Memorial Hospital said Banko was still being evaluated in the emergency room at 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Banko’s 2000 Kawasaki Volcan 800 Drifter received minor damage to a turn signal, its headlight and windshield in the accident.

The accident did not interrupt the flow of traffic, Bunne said.
