Motorcyclist in critical condition after accident

William Ferchland

A vehicle accident on Sierra Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe resulted in a motorcyclist being flown to Washoe Medical Center and a 27-year-old woman arrested on a felony charge of driving under the influence, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

Jessica Lance was attempting to make a turn onto Armstrong Avenue last week when a street bike occupied by Roy Umana smacked into her Hyundai, the officer said.

Umana, who was wearing a helmet, suffered broken bones to his left leg and injuries to his hip and head. He remains at Washoe Medical Center, where his status was critical when he entered.

Lance was taken into custody and booked into El Dorado County Jail where she made bail.

A blood draw was taken to determine what, if any, substances were in Lance’s body during the time of the accident.

Assistant District Attorney Hans Uthe said Lance will appear in court June 1.
