Murder trial starts today

Kara Fox

Jury selection begins today in a case where a man stands accused of murder in the stabbing death of an Incline Village man outside a Tahoe City restaurant last summer.

Timothy Brooks is being tried for murder. The charge is an open count of murder with a special allegation of using a deadly weapon.

Jury selection is scheduled to take two days with the trial beginning after the jury is picked. Brooks, who was living in Truckee at the time of the August incident, is accused in the stabbing death of Robert Ash, 47, of Newcastle, Calif., outside Syd’s Bagelry in Tahoe City. The stabbing occurred 30 minutes after Ash allegedly cut off Brooks and his wife on Highway 89 before Squaw Valley.

Ash, who grew up in Incline Village, had been working on projects in the Truckee area at the time of his death.

Jury selection will begin at 8:30 a.m. today in Auburn in Department 1.
