Mustangs roll past Whittell girls

ZEPHYR COVE — As far as makeup games go, the Whittell HIgh girls’ basketball team could have done without playing the Lovelock Mustangs on Monday.

The Mustangs, last year’s state runners-up, came into the season as a championship favorite and looked every bit of that projection in the nonleague game against Whittell.

Lovelock looked equally adept scoring in transition, off turnovers, from the perimeter and inside. They put the ball in the basket for four quarters, no matter who was on the floor.

Sophomore Sarita Jo. Condie did most of the damage, scoring a game-high 20 points before sitting out the final period By then, the Mustangs led 56-17. Senior Sarah Brinkerhoff scored 14 points, including six in the fourth period.

The teams were originally scheduled to play back in December, when heave snowfall postponed the game.
