It’s almost here — the Animal Coalition of Tahoe’s 12th annual Mutt Strut Poker Run, a fun, family event where you can get a little exercise with your pooch, play poker and have the chance to win prizes.

The Mutt Strut begins at the corner of Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Lakeview Avenue. Registration is held from 11-11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9. Participants will pick playing cards at stops along a one-mile route, hoping for the best poker hands.

“Fabulous prizes will be awarded to those with the best hands. It’s not a race, it’s just a fun way to raise money for ACT,” states a press release from the Animal Coalition of Tahoe.

No poker experience is needed in order to participate.

Poker hands may be purchased on site for $10 each, or three hands for $25. Those who buy three hands also receive a free Mutt Strut T-shirt.

“Purchases may be made in advance at Pet Station or Bonanza Boot and Leather store,” states the release.

After the walk, head out to Timber Cove Beach on Lake Tahoe Boulevard for a party featuring music, raffle drawings and various competitions including best trick and hot dog eating contests.

The Animal Coalition of Tahoe is a nonprofit organization that raises funds to support a low-cost spay-neuter program. ACT donates 10 percent of funds raised to the El Dorado County Animal Shelter.
