Mutt Strutt Poker Run this Sunday to benefit animal organizations

Provided to the Tribune

The third annual Mutt Strutt Poker Run and the party at Timber Cove have been scheduled for Sunday. While building their poker hand along the way during the 1.2-mile walk, participants and their pooches will get a little exercise.

The party at Timber Cove will include music, raffle drawings, games and the announcement of the best poker hands. Prizes have been donated by local businesses, including restaurants, jewelry stores, pet supply stores, spas and tanning salons. Proceeds will benefit the Animal Coalition of Tahoe spay-neuter program and the El Dorado County Animal Shelter.

Registration will be from 11-11:30 a.m. at Lakeview Sports, 3131 Harrison Ave., at Alameda, across from Sprouts.

The fee is $15 for the first poker hand and $25 for three hands and includes giveaway bag, water, snack and one raffle ticket per hand. To purchase advance tickets and for more information, call (530) 222-9138 or (530) 400-4766 or e-mail Event T-shirts will be available for purchase.

Animal Coalition of Tahoe is an all-volunteer, nonprofit corporation that sponsors several fundraisers each year to support a spay-neuter program for South Tahoe residents, plus 10 percent of all funds raised are donated to the El Dorado County animal shelter. The shelter is being rebuilt and ACT has committed to paying for an additional 100 feet of fencing for dog runs. The group hopes to raise enough funds in the coming year to resurface the runs with an all-weather artificial grass.
