SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — The Lake Tahoe Community College women’s soccer team stepped between the lines against tough competition for an exhibition match Friday, Aug. 19, at Viking Stadium. In their first preseason match, the Coyotes fell to Div. II San Francisco State University 6-1 in a match that got away in the second half.

Lake Tahoe trailed 2-0 at halftime, then made it a one-goal game in the 60th minute on a shot from a short corner from freshman Yareli Trujillo. San Francisco State immediately answered with a goal to stretch its lead back to 3-1, and it stayed that despite a near-miss from LTCC freshman Marlie Mandaguit that struck the post from 30 yards out.

After the Coyotes switched goalkeepers, the Gators scored three times in the last 20 minutes. Lake Tahoe CC played all but two of its players and hung with San Francisco State for two-thirds of the match despite the visitors not subbing often.

LTCC travels to West Valley College (Saratoga, Calif.) on Tuesday, Aug. 23, for its second preseason exhibition match. The Coyotes open their 2016 campaign at home Saturday, Aug. 27, against Cosumnes River College (Sacramento, Calif.) — kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
