LOBBY UPGRADES AT LAKE TAHOE AIRPORT

The City of South Lake Tahoe has several construction projects currently underway at Lake Tahoe Airport.

First, the city will have mechanical and ADA improvements occurring on the interior of the building. The airport building was originally constructed in 1959. The last time the air and heating were upgraded was 40 years ago.

The scope of work for the project includes demolition of the lobby and common area carpeting, walls, doors, lighting, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, ceiling tile and grid. Construction includes replacement of the building HVAC and mechanical equipment, replacement of the lighting, new wall and ceiling treatments, new windows and glazing, installation of a gas fireplace with a stone facade, timber log and iron accents. There will also be wood paneled walls, new office doors, and a visitor’s center area. Modifications to the reception area include an ADA counter and safety glass transaction window, new carpeting and resilient flooring. ADA upgrades to the lobby entrance door will include an electronic door and ADA ramps.

DML Construction was the lowest responsive bidder and therefore was awarded this project. DML Construction has hired six local subcontractor’s including:

• McGee Plumbing – HVAC/Plumbing/Fireplace

• Champion Floors – Flooring

• Kaczmar Painting – Painting

• Alpine Metals – Structural Steel

• South Shore Glass – Glazing

• Winter’s Electric – Electrical

The majority of the funding for this project was derived from the sale of Stream Environment Zone Coverage at the airport property. Per the Federal Aviation Administration regulations, the funds generated from the sale of the coverage must be reinvested at the airport, therefore these funds could not be used on any other capital improvement projects in town. Construction is due to be completed in mid-October.

DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP

Tahoe Type 1 Diabetes Success Group will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 5:30 p.m. The group gathers in the Barton Hospital Board Room, 2170 South St., in South Lake Tahoe.

The group is made of highly motivated local Type 1 diabetics. This is not a typical support group, but rather an energetic success group.

“We meet monthly to share ideas, experiences and resources,” a news release said. “Our group is focused on improving the quality of life of those with diabetes through small victories each month. We welcome anyone impacted by Type 1 diabetes, including family, friends and supporters.”
