SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The California Highway Patrol has released the name of a South Lake Tahoe man who was killed in a motorcycle crash in Sierra County Sunday afternoon.

Jerry Ralph Godbey, 45, was traveling south on State Route 49 just north of Convict Flat Campground about 3:10 p.m. when he lost control of his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and slid into the northbound lane, according to a summary of the crash.

Reno resident Purdy Brewington, 51, was traveling northbound on a Yamaha motorcycle and moved to avoid Godbey, according to the summary. In doing so, officers believe Brewington traveled onto the right shoulder of the highway and collided with a guardrail. He was thrown approximately 45 feet, according to the summary.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

It is unclear why Godbey lost control of the motorcycle, according to the CHP.
