A community gathering to mark the National Day of Prayer will be at May 6 at the South Lake Tahoe Police Department office, 1352 Johnson Blvd. Participants will gather at the flag pole.

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation, according to the event website. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the U.S. Congress, and signed into law by President Harry Truman.
