National WinterTrails Day celebration kicks off Jan. 9

The Tahoe Rim Trail Association will kick off its winter season and celebration of National Winter Trails Day on Jan. 9 at the Tahoe Meadows trail from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Tahoe Meadows trailhead is located one half-mile southwest of the Mt. Rose summit on Highway 431.

This family-friendly event is suited for all abilities and will feature the association’s first free guided snowshoe hike of the year, complimentary hot chocolate and snacks, activities for kids, snow cave building demonstrations and winter safety tips. The event is free and participants should wear proper clothing and bring snowshoes.

Following this event, there will be free guided snowshoe treks offered every Saturday through the end of March, in addition to full-moon guided snowshoe hikes. For more information about the winter programs with the TRTA, visit http://www.tahoerimtrail.org.

Pre-registration is requested at programs@tahoerimtrail.org or (775) 298-0012.
