NEA gives Artown festival $20,000
March 25, 2009
RENO ” The National Endowment for the Arts has approved a $20,000 grant for Reno’s annual Artown festival that runs the entire month of July.
Artown Executive Director Beth Macmillan says it is the biggest grant the festival has ever received from the NEA. Last year it received $15,000.
Macmillan says the grant announced Monday comes at an important time because funding for the arts is threatened throughout the country due to the sour economy. She says the NEA recognizes that Artown strives to present “thought-provoking, diverse and accessible artistic offerings.”
The 14th annual festival will consist of more than 350 art, music and cultural events, most of them free in a downtown park along the Truckee River. It also will include ticketed performances at area stages and theaters.
