Near record high temperatures possible today and Friday
August 14, 2008
A strong upper level high pressure ridge over California will bring near record warmth to the Tahoe area today and Friday.
Highs today are forecast to reach the upper 80s to mid 90s around the lake under mostly sunny skies and light winds. Look for afternoon cumulus to develop with isolated thunderstorms possible mainly south of Lake Tahoe today along the Sierra crest. Lows tonight are expected to drop into the lower to mid 40s with light winds.
Another hot day on tap for Friday as highs again reach the upper 80s to mid 90s at lake level. A light wind flow pattern under the high pressure ridge will lead to an increase in moisture and instability along the Sierra Friday and into the weekend.
Forecast models are showing an increase in clouds and thunderstorm activity this weekend which could have a moderating affect on temperatures with a little cooler days and milder nights.
