Nearly time to register students

Students of the Lake Tahoe Unified School District to return to class in September, and registration is coming up.

Individual schools will be open for registration on different dates.

Elementary schools will be open after Aug. 17. Residents are encouraged to call the individual schools after that date: Al Tahoe Elementary School, 543-2310; Bijou Elementary School, 543-2337; Meyers Elementary School, 543-2371; Sierra House Elementary School, 543-2327; and Tahoe Valley Elementary School, 543-2350.

South Tahoe Middle and High schools will be open for registration calls after Aug. 24. The number for the middle school is 541-6404; the high school number is 541-4111.

Children entering kindergarten in September must be registered at the elementary school where their parents want them to attend.

To be eligible for enrollment, a child must be 5 years of age on or before Dec. 2, 1998.

California law requires that parents of prospective kindergarten students provide the following: birth certificate; proof of immunization, including Hepatitis B; proof of a tuberculosis skin test within the past six months; a health examination from a family doctor or the health department, 573-3155; and proof of California residency.
