Nevada coach Carter backs move to Mountain West

RENO – Nevada basketball coach David Carter says he’s all for the Wolf Pack joining the Mountain West Conference.

School president Milt Glick confirmed late Wednesday that Nevada has received an invitation and is seriously considering leaving the Western Athletic Conference for the MWC.

Carter says it be good for both football and basketball. He said he thinks Nevada should be in the same conference as rival UNLV and play them twice every season on a home-and-home basis.

Carter can’t think of any disadvantages of such a move. He says the MWC is an up and coming basketball league with the likes of UNLV, San Diego State, TCU and Colorado State. He says the better name recognition on the West Coast also would help with recruiting.
