CARSON CITY, Nev. — With fall and winter right around the corner, Nevada Department of Transportation has put out a call for seasonal highway maintenance workers.

The primary task of the temporary positions is to keep winter roads clear, including snow plow and anti-icing operations and assisting in highway emergency response, among other duties, according to NDOT.

Through Sept. 8, applications are being accepted for more than 60 temporary winter job positions in Lake Tahoe, Carson City, Gardnerville, Reno, Sparks, Lovelock, Hawthorne, Virginia City, Fernley, Fallon, Silver Springs, Wellington and Yerington. Positions are also available in Las Vegas, Elko, Ely, Winnemucca and other areas across the state.

The majority of positions require applicants who can operate various types of heavy equipment. Many of the positions also offer opportunity to advance into permanent positions, according to NDOT.

Requirements and additional information is available through the “careers” link at or by calling 775-834-8300.

NDOT begins annual winter preparations in early fall by readying more than 80 snow plows and other pieces of snow and ice equipment for use in snow removal across northwestern Nevada.
