Nevada GOP: Brown victory forecasts Reid defeat
CARSON CITY, Nev. – Nevada Republican leaders say Tuesday’s GOP victory in the Massachusetts Senate race will spur a Republican renaissance in Nevada and the defeat of U.S. Sen. Harry Reid in November.
State GOP Chairman Chris Comfort, in a conference call with reporters Wednesday, said Scott Brown’s win over Democrat Martha Coakley signals a “sinking ship” for the Democratic majority leader.
But Democratic strategists say Reid is well positioned for the campaign and that the political landscape 10 months from now can change dramatically.
Coakley had been considered a shoe-in just days before Tuesday’s special election.
Her loss in the liberal state signaled big political problems for President Obama and the Democratic Party this fall when House, Senate and gubernatorial candidates are on the ballot nationwide.
